Missed a few days in the tumoil of christmas so here goes:
Christmas Day - up early of course, gave the boys a few presents to shut them up before breakfast, then open up the rest, usual selection of books, pens, plastic etc. I baked a ham for lunch and bbq'd 12 scallops and 2 dozen green prawns, very nice but very fiddly.
Went for a long walk after lunch with the boys footballs. Played Wineopoly in the evening, just as boring as Monopoly, I landed on Jen's Bordeaux with 4 bunches of grapes and a decanter and owed her $1200! gave her all my stuff and she went on to win.
Boxing Day - Went to Clovelly Beach so the boys could use their snorkels, I sat, read and got aroused until it was time to go home. Roasted a 2kg beef joint and proceeded to eat half of it in a house full of vegetarians and fussy children, felt ill afterwards, played a DVD trivia game in the evening which Jenny and I won.
27th-29th - A couple of nights in the Blue Mountains, to give us all a little respite. Found a great little cottage in Wentworth Falls, about 110 pounds a night. The Duncan Slade cash machine and taxi service was in full force, driving 3 boys and Jen around multiple sights, walks, leaps and lookouts for 48 hours, back in the afternoon to Sydney crashed out about 10.30 and up at 7am to write this.
No job news, no house news, no car news - But sun tan is coming on a treat ;-)

Wed 24th - Caught my first tube today, sir.
(well, not really, but did buy a body board)
Went off with Jen and boys to a beach north of Manly, Macdonalds for lunch, went rock pooling and saw hundreds of crabs.
Back home, tried to video birthday message for my Mum from the boys, but the webcam on my eeepc is a bit rubbish and windows movie maker hates the .ogg format.
Wish i'd bought a proper cam now.
Kids asleep by nine, bottle and half of red and 2 hours later, I went to bed. Up at six on Christmas Day, hungover and writing this.
HO Ho bleughhh.

Mon, Tue 23rd
Up early to usual noises, boys attempting to be quiet. Drove off with Justin to meet an agency guy in North Sydney, did usual chat, "What kind of role are you looking for?" etc. went ok, he'll put me forward for a security engineer role that will lead on to consultancy etc etc. No word from other agencies. Carried on with Justin to meet Jen and boys on Manly beach, Jim got badly stung by bluebottle jellyfish, so I walked him to a chemist to get some anti bite stuff, poor little guy, weeping for half an hour and there is nothing you can do!
Tuesday, stayed around the house, raining softly, various excursions to local shops when boys were exploding. I'm sure something else happened but can't remember.

Sat, Sun 21st December
Saturday am, Jen took Joe shopping in the morning, then came back and went off with Justin and Ronnie to do a food shop, then came back and went off with Ronnie to view a few houses around Balmain. I took kids to a park then to a butchers, (Bad Father, Pah!) boughtsome more Tbones and picked up my suit trousers from the tailor (leg lengthening not arse repairing). Back home and messed around for a few hours, Jen and Ronnie back at 4.30ish, Cooked the boys dinner, Potato Rostii and chicken breasts baked in crisps with brocolli, which they didn't eat. Had my tbone and rostii with red wine sauce, which i did eat. Jen and Ron went out at 6.30 to meet some of ronnies friends so I hadthe fashion show beforehand for an hour, needless to say my comments and suggestons went unheeded, but such is life. Shouted at children most of the evening and went to bed at 10.30ish. 10.32 phonecall from Justin asking for chips to be put in oven. Refused, but got up again when they all came in together at 11ish. Back to bed 11.30 - Living the Dream ....
Sunday, up early ish covered in boys and piss, it seems that you shouldn't just give your children 3 litres of juice to shut them up when they ask for it. Ah well.
Off to the Natural History Museum this morning with Justin and Ronnie, usual routine followed by the giftshop. Back at 4pm when i cooked roast chicken and roast potatoes with carrots, which they didn't eat. I had another Tbone, watched tv, played online poker, went to bed about 11. Interview in acafe with an agency guy in the morning.
Night all.

friday 19th
Worked out I was 39 and 4months old today, Had an interview at 3pm with a company in North Sydney (over the famous bridge) Small company, good job, interviewer liked me, so we'll see about that too. Ferry back about 5pm fish and chips for dinner. Jenny hasfound some more houses to look at on saturday, new criteria - if we are not at the beach area (i.e. bronte, bondi etc) we must have a garden.
Decided to learn Italian and Mandarin at the same time.

2nd interview went pretty well, I was sitting in a park near a school, lookinging like a complete paedo with all the school kids wanderin past but forgot abou hat when te phon rang, A pleasant american who thought the name Slade was cool, rattled off a list of about 50 questions covering Linux, Windows, Security and Networking ranging from "what command do you use to list the contects of a directory by size in reverse order?" to "What is a man in the middle atack?", some i got right, some i didn't know but I got on ok withe american so we'll wait and see.
Spent the aftrnoon on bondi beach, thought about compiling a video montage of bikini babes all saying "Happy christmas Andy" but I doubt I'll have the nerve, so it'll probably be my 3 boys in their pants, shouting and doing a combination kungfu panda and bottom waving dance, sorry mate!
Had my usual mcdonalds and bought some sandal type things, pavements get really hot.
Got back about 6 an left at6.15 to go to my 2nd aussie amture poker session downthe road, almost got knocked out in the first 10mins when i was feling tired and went all in with a pair of 2's (stupid move but they are lucky apparently) The other guy had Ace 8 of clubs, and 2 8's turned up then another couple of cards, that's it I thought and stood up and was saying my goodbyes, when some one said "hang on, that's a flush" I looked down and there were 4 hearts on the table, I had hit the flush with my 2 of hearts, I won, he lost, I sat down, he went home!!!! Anyway, after that I was rocking, made it to the final table with the 3rd biggest stack and ended up coming 3rd after someone called my all in on 2 sixes, he had Ace 4, and hit his Ace on the flop. Great fun, plus I was random selected for the monthly regional finals at the end of Jan, the winner of which goes to a half million dollar tournament!
Back home by 10, glass of wine then bed.

Sun, Mon, Tues, Weds 17th
Bit of a blur these last 3 days, Sunday was another good day on the beach, the areas around Manly looked good, clean, big, family type houses and not really on the busy tourist rstauarants, pubs circuit, but have been told that it's rough there and populated by teenage mums and drug addicts, houses get robbed all the time.
Monday am, I used seek.com.au to apply for about 8 jobs, got 2 calls by 10am and hs been constant ever since! 2nd interview by phone from the states on Thurs 9am, 1st interview for another job Thurs pm, met agency guy on Wed who will put me forward for a great job based in the CBD (so ferry to work!) meeting another agency guy in coffee shop on Monday am, and have 2 agencies putting me forward for a 12mnth IBM contract $60/hour.
Went to the beach on tuesday (bondi), the waves weretoo big to go deeper than 10foot from the shore without getting sucked out to sea, but very hot so we all played on the sand.
Wed pm, I me with Jen and the boys at the maritime museum in the city and wandered around a 1959 battle ship, a class d submarine wth torpedos built in 1969, a repica ofHMS endeavour (Captain Cook's ship) and the museum inside, lots of boat stuff and a good surfing exhibit. Had agreat lunch at thatplace, boys ate well and i had a superb sirloin steak (about 9 quid).
Thursday morning now, and I'm getting ready for my telephone interview at 9am, i have to leave the house to take it in peace!

Sat 13th
Morning spent looking at houses in Clovelly, near bronte and Bondi, again Jen and I can't agree on them, Then the beach at Clovelly, boring for me, but kids enjoyed rock pools, 2 hours of that and after Jack 'filled' his wetsuit, we went to Coogee Beach, mad waves and loads of backpackers, had more fun there, got wet and burnt. Excellent hot day. Figured out the tunnnel system at last and got back to Balmain in 25mins as opposed to 2hrs!
Jen, Just and Ron chatted till 1.30am, I crashed out about midnight, Pancakes, bacon and sauted potatoes for breakfast today (Sun 14th) weather still great so we are off to Manly beach and to check out surrounding areas.
Cheers

Got through to the 2nd interview, will hear when next week. Drank too much in the evening, we bought a crate (12 bottles) of wine from justin for $100.

Thursday 11t
Cloudy day, so we bumbled around till Justin arrived, then headed off to check out Bronte beach and area, did the walk from our possible flat down to th beach, through a nature reserve and was on the sand in about 10mins if that. looks great for families, outdoor bbq and playgrounds plus bars and cafes, (got posh fish and chips for everyone for lunch, v. good) The boys amused themselves by popping and burying hundreds of toxic blue bottle jellyfish washed up by the storm a day or so ago(whaddya gonna do?) Drove back after about 3 hours, getting lost in the city again. Chicken, hotdogs and pasta for dinner, then I went to a Australian amature poker meeting that as being held just down the road, free to enter, came 12th out of 24, few beers, nice group of guys, could see that being a regular thing, if we were not moving away! On the other hand, big pool tournament in Bondi next saturday. Dunx
Wed 10th
Jen took boys off about 10am to the wildlife centre, so i coud prepare for my interview, which I did. Had the interview over the phone which lasted about 45 minutes. Had a good chat, seems very similar to my last position and they ar a midsized expanding company, I'd be on a 4 days on, 4days off rota of 10 hour shifts, according to a travel planner if i wasusing public transport, it'd take 1hr 10minsfrom balmain, or 1 hr 20mins from Bronte (which is were we are probably going to live) About average salary, less than before obviously and huge rent (capital city, near beach, high demand, nice place etc.) means it will be tough to survive, but i gave up hope of an easy life when I had children, I feel another internet sideline coming on. Anyway, should hear today if they want a face to face interview, I'll keep you posted.

Tuesday, 2 weeks in Oz !
Up at 7.30, breakfast outside, lovely morning, Jen had interview at 1.15 near rose bay, so Justin came over to drive her, he arrived about 11. Jen had fixed a couple of houses to look at in that area for the afternoon, So i decide to hire a car and take the boys to Bondi Beach while she interviewed then we'd all go and look at houses. Found a new Hyundai sedan thing for about 20 quid a day, bargain. picked it up in Kings cross. Justin said he'd take Jen and boys to interview so i could just drive to the beach and collect the boys there. Process was excellent, super quick and I was at the beach about 40mins before the others, parked up and had a macdonalds which again was super quick and correct, double quarter pounder with no cheese. Might just be me, but it tasted better than UK. Aussie beef. Met up with jen, justin and boys and took the boys off to beach whislt Justin took Jen to interview.
Oh my god, it came flooding back, just a fucking great beach, good powerful waves, white sand and beautiful people everywhere, (until i took my tshirt off, of course) stayed there for about an hour until just and jen arrived complete with umbrella and picnic!?!?! Margate hits bondi.
Anyway, spent the last 3 hours bodysurfing and remembering that bondi salty throat feeling which used to lead on to a slab of VB but today ended with and excellent pizza and coke from Balmain on our way home. (Houses were shit by the way, overpriced dumps that should be condemned. Need to look further afield I think. Stuffed and content now. Good day. Ciao

Took jack on ferry into the city to get a printer, got a free ipod alrm clock speaker thing with it which was a good idea until I had to carry, alrmclock, printer and Jack most of the way home, heavy sods the lot of them.
Also bought a book, "how to keep your vw alive for the complete idiot" thought it was appropriate plus research before i buy one.
Asleep by 10 after a couple of glasses of wine, in my own bed this time!

Day 11 Sydney
Got a telephone interview on Monady for a security company based in North Ryde! Went to view a house in the morning, too smal, and spent the afternoon in an outdoor swimming pool, basically an area of sydney harbour that had been fenced off to creat a safe place. kind of overcast but got burnt anyway, came back home, salmon for dinner then watched kids tv till 9 when they finally went to bed, decided i'd like to restore and sell beach buggies as a sideline so i'm looking for evening classes on what a spanner is. Jen got called about a part time job too, so things are happening.

Day 10
Got the ferry with the family in the morning into Darling Harbour, they went off to the Powerhouse science museum while I went into the city to get a keyboard and do some more scoping around. Found a PC shop called Bing Lee at the top of Sydney Plaza? Quite an overcast day but still warm, around 20 degrees. Getting to know the city again pretty well having walked about 20 miles around it this week. BAck to Balmain East about 1pm having missed a text from Jen because i'd set it on silent after yesterday. Got the bus up the hill an picked my suit up from the dry cleaners, had lunch in the Monkey Bar, a trendy bar that served me a huge plate of calamari and chips for about 6 quid. Got back home and chased up agencies and estate agents, eing 4 houses on saturday. Jen phones at 2.30pm, she's at the bottom of the hill by the ferry (bloody cheap keyboard keeps missing letters!!!!) so I borrow Justins mitsubishi galant automatic and lurch down the high street at speeds ranging between 0mph and 6mph, then bursting unexpectedly to about 400mph!! anyway, make it to the ferry safely and load up family. Just get back to the house when my phone goes off (0466 513 889, by the way. Don't know the dialling codes and be aware of the time differences!) it's justin in the pub, hoorah. so i go off and meet him for a couple before bying some food for tonight, burgers for the boys, tbone steaks for me and a sort of tomato red pepper soup thing i make for the vegetarians.
Couple of glasses of wine after dinner and in bed at 10ish. I'm aware of the ever decreasing length of my posts and this could be due to waning enthusiasm, less time as body clocks normalise, less exciting/interesting? daily events or a combination of all. Anyway, again, (lazy way to start a sentnce) I'm starting my patented day of the month exercise routine which involes 1 situp, 1 pressup and 1k run for every day of the month, i.e. 5 of each today.
pancakes for breakfast today i think.

day 8 2/12/08 tuesday
Up at 6am, and wrote outline business plan for Wine merchants type thing inc. mobile online wine collections etc. Glad to see creative juices starting to flow again. registered www.winegoblin.com just in case (all they had available and has a nice ring)I went out with Jim at 7 and bought croissants, doughnuts, bread with seeds in, and decent printer paper and envelopesJen, boys and Justin off to beaches today whilst I printed out CV and covering letters, got about 15 5page cv's done before the printer started playing up and screwing up my nice paper.Went to pick up suit from dry cleaners at 12 and told not ready yet so came back and wore crumpled one, got ferry to darling harbour armed with 15 a5 envelopes and hunted down the 15 biggest skyscrapers on the sydney skyline. They look close together when on the ferry but were effing miles apart when walking! On the whole successful canvassing including one company that occupied a whole floor of a skyscraper that i got off on by mistake, no idea what they do or what they are called but they accepted my application all the same, also found a company called ninemsn that had microsoft tables (groovy offices, neon and gadgets everywhere)Back home around 6pm, but will have to go out and get some food when kids are asleep.Bloody hot in my suit but, seriously, I can't complain.More tomorrow darlinks xx

DAY 6, sun 30th - Surf's up dude!
Just Jim and I up and out this morning, 6ish. We walked back to the cafe we found yesterday and had croissants, juice and coffee for breakfast. Walked back past our possible new house and met the family about 7am, another breakfast of omlettes later we decided to all go off to Manly beach as it was a wonderfully clear and sunny day. Ferry to Circular Quay, then on board the manly ferry, took about 1.5 hours door to beach but It's good as a practice run for Jen when she has to entertain the boys on her own, 3 hrs travelling really eats up the day!I'd only been to manly once before and got as far as the ferry port then turned round and got on the return ferry due to a huge arguement with a girlfriend on the way over, so it was nice to get a bit further this time.Beach was great, we had lunch outside on some benches, boy's had fish and chips, I had an excellent burger.Jim has found his spiritual home, he absolutely loved it. The other boys too but it was good to jim soo happy there.I had a bit of a swim and did some body surfing, finally, the reward for swimming out in the first place. Big poweful surf, totally took me back to 1991, walking around barefoot, gentle breeze off the sea and slow baking sunshine. Also, some classic austalian beach bodies bouncing around ;-)Back on the ferry after 4 hours and an ice cream, then a BBQ. Couple of glasses of Shiraz, (Justin is slowly working me up his good wine collection) Then crashed out about 9pm again. Estate agents on monday then I'm hitting Sydney CBD to get myself gainfully employed. Later Dudes
day 5 sat 29th
Up a little later today, around 5.30am and took Jen, Jim joe and Jack out for a wander. Still raining so didn't go far, don't think we did much at all today, Jen was suffering with a hangover as she went out with Ronnie and her friend Marsie on the friday night, we were supposed to swap child care duties but I was asleep by 8.30pm so she carried on drinking. We walked for a few miles and found an excellent cafe on Rowntree Street, off Darling street. Had bacon and egg rolls whilst the boys didn't eat their blueberry muffins, Jim naturally spilt his apple juice after 3 seconds. So paid the bill about 30 dollars ~ 12 quid? and came back.Jen and ronnie had picked out about 5 houses to look at today that had their open day timinings spread out over the course of the day, I stayed in with boys whilst jen ronnie and justing trooped round inspecting, A variety of piss poor housing later (1000 quid a month for some absolute toilets!) It was decided that I go with Ronnie to see the house that i had spotted in an estate agents window, It turned out to be an old coffe shop with it's signs still plastered over the windows but insdie was great, wide old wooden floors, 3 big bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, dining room and outdoor patio. All nicely decorated. Ronnie said it was the best so far and the fact that it was a coffee shop did it for me. So i have to give various references and cash to estate agent on monday am. and see if we get selected??!!Bought some crap steaks from woolworths (it's a supermarket over here?) and crashed out about 9pm
day 4
Awake at 4am!!, took all 3 kids out at 6,30am for a bit of an explore, and found an excellent bakers, bought 6 doughnuts, 8 huge croissants and a loaf of bread and took them back, usual fights over the colour of the doughnuts so i chopped them in bits, that shut them up for 2 minutes, then it was fights over number of bits, so distributed them equally, now fights over the existence of god and whether father christmas wears pants or not. I gave up..Today was Aquarium day, so we trooped off to the ferry again and were buying our annual passes by 9.30am.The bet aquarium i've ever been in, and i know my aquariums!, just great.there are some scary looking mothers outthere under water. the shark area was great with one of those tunnels that they swim overhead and a glass floor that they swim underneath, did that for a couple of hours, then went next door to the wildlife centre, included on our passes, again excellent, again 1km of walkways, saw loads of bugs and spent time educating the kids on the spider and snake situation. Had a drink next to a family of kangaroos and koalas, Stroked a snake and sat i the butterfly enclosure while the boys waited for them to land on their hands, Jim never quite grasped the standing still concept and had to settle for 'a butterfly went near my head!' claim to insect fame. meanwhile jack seemed able to shoot a hand out and pluck them out of the air, matrix stylee, until we told him not too. But incredible to watch.Lunch now at the aquarium cafe thing. again excellent food, can you imagine the cafe at the london aquarium, froxen burgers, microchips etc. This as great, fresh salt and pepper squid for me again, lentil burger for jen and chicken goujons for the boys, not a processed bit of food in sight..Got up to go and saw a torrential thunderstorm wtf? big fat heavy lazy hot raindrops, gently exploded on the floor as we went to get the ferry, water a bit choppy but fine. Back home the kids played, jen went to sleep and iwent to get some chicken for dinner which we had with noodles, Kids fell asleep at the table, put them to bed and went to bed my self at 6.30pm on a friday, awake at 3am so got up and am now sitting in dark kitchen tapping away on my little pc, Jim just came past and went for a wee, unfortunately he just shathimself while standing infront of the toilet, gotta go, cleanup in aisle 3.Going to look at houses later....
Day 3
up at crack of dawn again, took 2 kids out for a walk at 6am, went down to see the ferries and play on the parks and swings, all went well for about an hour until jack came running up to my bench, put his hands out to grab the seat part, missed, and connected fully with his bottom teeth and lip on the wood, blood exploded every but thankfully no teeth, picked him up and carried him home with Jim following behind, got him to stop crying relatively quickly by reading house numbers. He was even walking by the time we got back to the house, then he saw jenny and started over again, trauma, momma, drama etc. After a breakfast of 12 scambled eggs, half a pound of proscuitto, and 2 loavs of bread, we setoff on the ferry to get tothe CBD of sydney to find our bank and get our bank cards etc.Having never experienced the big city, the kids thought is was some great big urban playground, so the whole 'education' process started again, stop means stop, no running, wait for mummy and daddy etc. bloody nightmare. The they all started singing Pink's like a pill at the top of their voices for nor reason at all. Found the bank and went in where a very nice vietnemese lady took care of us. I got her phone number and the email address of the IT boss of the bank so i'll send off my CV soon.We found a virgin mobile phone shop and bought jen a simcard for her exisiting phone and myself a new $40 cheapyphone, to be upgraded when i'm working again. Had an excellent lunch in a food court, i'd forgotten how good the food was out here,This was like an everyday busy mall, but we sat outside and all the staff were friendly and positive and I had some excellent squid, jen had a great looking salad and the boys shared a burger and chips, but the quality was outstanding, can't wait to try a restaurant if this is what the 'little chefs' are like! So, ferry back home, more playgrounds and big ham andwiches for tea, then kids in bed and the adults sat around and chatted and drank, bed at 11.30pm feeling pretty good.

Question:How to make this interesting? Answer: Don't know. Official day 1We arrived at the Heathrow airport hotel about 2pm on Sunday and checked in after repeatedly confirming the Kids Eat Free deal we had (after being stung before). My friend Piers arrived to pick up our trusty Mazda Estate that I'd sold to him the previous week for £100, and we all went for a swim in the hotel pool. A before and after photo opp. presented itself but I didn't oblige.Had a fantastic dinner that evening, and the kids ate free!Big taxi to terminal 3 at 9am and we made it to the online checkin booths for bag weighing and security. Of course the booths were not working so we queued up for an hour anyway.Had some expensive cokes, coffee etc. in a cafe place then boarded the jumbo.1st leg uneventful, just long -11hrs, broke out the gadgets after 2 hours, nintendo DS's for the 2 youngest and SonyPSP for the eldest, instant fights about colour, games, films etc. ungrateful buggers.Stopped over in Hong Kong for 2 hours, walked the entire airport to our next departure gate and got on next plane, brandnew airbus with up to date gadgets built in so hardly touched our hand luggage. We all slept on this leg and arrived in Sydney at 9pm local time.Cleared customs fine, got a taxi straight away and found Justin and Ronnies place pretty easily, so all in all, not the nightmare I had expected. ¾ bottle wine later – passed out.Day 2 Wed 2?Woken up at 5am by a parrot outside the window!I stepped out to have a look and the patio was warm on my bare feet, crazy days. The whole trip so far was pretty good, kids behaved, Jen calm and myself numb.Ronnie does a 9 to 5 ish job in the city so we felt bad that our kids were up 'n' atomso early! I waited till 7am and dragged the noisiest one out to find a bakers or something.Gotback about halfpast to say bye to Ronnie as she left then had our breakfast.Still jet lagged, it all seems a bit wierd, upside down etc.Made a list of things to do, then went to a local park (should embellish this with lots of descriptions and feelings etc. but can't be arsed at the moment, so itreads like a statement of accounts)Took a ride with Justin to get his PC fixed and buy some duvets, saw his wine warehouse on the way, found an internet cafe and updated facebook. Came back about 2pm and bumbled around with family until Justin escaped towork early. I crashed out on bed at 2,30pm and the next thing I know, It's half nine in the evening and i'm covered in sleeping boys and wife, so i get up, stumble past Justin and Ronnie trying to have a normal evening watching telly at very low volume, and step out to find a pub.So here I am, sitting in the London Hotel, Balmain, Sydney, feeling like a twat tapping away on my tiny laptop, with a vague plan of staying up till 2am, drinking loads and passing out again to hopefully reset my fucked up bodyclock. Met an Aussie girl and irish guy, did the hello thing, we'll see...Summary so far: Same shit, different place... (but in a good way)
